Business Manager: Built Environment
UCL Business PLC is responsible for the delivery of University College London’s commercial-facing knowledge transfer activities. We are seeking an experienced and motivated individual to join the Physical Science & Engineering team, who will take responsibility for developing activities across the Built Environment and related sectors including the newly formed UCL Energy Institute.
The Business Manager performs a key role within UCL Business PLC and key tasks include:
- Assisting academic departments in the co-ordination of commercial-facing activities.
- Establishing and maintaining UCL’s commercial relationships so as to enhance research and consultancy engagements between industry and UCL.
- Intellectual Property Management including the identification of promising technologies, managing the patenting process and working with academic staff to determine & execute optimal commercialisation strategies.
- Technology licensing including marketing technologies to potential licensees and negotiating license agreements.
- Development of business plans for spin-out company creation.
You will be able to demonstrate a strong grounding in a Built Environment or Energy related discipline, together with significant commercial experience and an excellent grasp of intellectual property issues. Furthermore you will be highly motivated and enthusiastic with excellent communication and organizational skills in order to lead opinion and operate effectively at the interface between academia and industry.
The salary, depending on experience will be £35,000-£50,000 per annum. There is also a contributory pension scheme and performance-related bonus scheme.
