UCL Advanced Diagnostics Ltd. (UCLAD)
UCL Advanced Diagnostics has evolved from the Department of Pathology’s immunocytochemistry unit that has been providing a service to UCL Departments and UCL Hospitals since the early 1980s and to other hospitals around the UK since 1990.
Modern cancer treatments depend upon an accurate characterisation of the disease by the pathologist. There is an ever increasing array of biological markers available to assist in this, but it is not always cost effective for the smaller laboratory to hold a large portfolio of expensive markers. UCL Advanced Diagnostics has one of the largest collections of antibodies and in situ probes in the country for use on formalin-fixed paraffin embedded tissue sections, and is a major centre for HER-2 testing using both immunocytochemistry and fluorescent in situ hybridisation (FISH). In addition, we are developing a series of chromogenic in situ methods for infective agents, such as Cytomegalovirus (CMV), Epstein-Barr Virus (EBV) and various types of Human Papilloma Virus (HPV).
Our service is available on a permanent or temporary basis to all pathologists and pathology laboratories, whether they require a complete immunocytochemistry/FISH investigation, or just to complement their own local testing protocols with additional, more esoteric markers.
