Helicon Health®, a UCL spinout company supported by UCL Business, has recently received funding from the Small Business Research Initiative Healthcare programme, with a share of the £2.1m investment in innovation to build General Practice (GP) services of the future. The investment is funded by NHS England and Helicon is one of a group of companies selected to develop novel technologies that aim to improve primary care and GP services.

Helicon Health® will use this funding to develop myHelicon-StrokePrevent™, an easy-to use app and digital platform for patients who are at risk of a stroke, to help them become confident in self-care, reduce risk, and to live longer healthier lives.

MyHelicon – StrokePrevent™ represents the next step in the continuation of the successful commercial development of the company to deliver patient powered self-care solutions to unlock benefits for the NHS patients and GPs.

Stroke is a terrible injury caused by a clot or bleed in the brain. It can result in death or permanent disability. I am delighted Helicon has been selected for this award, to help reduce the burden of stroke to individuals, their families and the NHS”, said Professor David Patterson, Helicon’s founder and Chief Medical Officer.

This SBRI healthcare award is a great reflection on Helicon Health and their unique myHelicon-StrokePrevent™ app and digital platform. We look forward to continuing supporting the company’s ongoing growth and product development” Commented Cengiz Tarhan, Managing Director of UCLB.
