UCLB spinout company IXICO expands into Digital Healthcare

16 October 2013

IXICO Limited, the medical image analysis company whose founders included Professors David Hawkes and Derek Hill from the Centre for Medical Image Computing at UCL was recently acquired by Phytopharm plc in a reverse takeover transaction.

Since its formation in 2005, IXICO has established itself as a provider of medical image analysis services to the clinical trials market and more recently has sought to move into the ‘digital healthcare’ space through the development of products to support dementia diagnosis. The funds resulting from the Phytopharm transaction will be used to support the further development of these activities.

Dr Steven Schooling from UCLB commented “We look forward to seeing Ixico grow its clinical trial services revenues and also develop clinically relevant technology solutions in the increasingly important area of neuro-degeneration”.

About Ixico
Founded by Professor Derek Hill and Professor David Hawkes from the Centre for Medical Image Computing in conjunction with colleagues at Imperial College, Ixico provides image analysis services to the pharmaceutical industry. By coupling image analysis technology with expertise in image acquisition, the company is able to provide automated, scalable and authoritative information extraction solutions.  Ixico will improve the quality and effectiveness of therapeutic interventions, both under development and in clinical use, through an automated service to extract relevant clinical information from images.
