The successful Engage Invest Exploit (EIE) startup showcase came to London yesterday, supported for the first time by UCL Business PLC and UCL Advances. Hosted at the imposing Canada House, EIE London provided a forum for ambitious ICTcompanies developing technologies with significant market potential to pitch to an international audience of investors, fund managers and angels. The selected group of 12 post-seed companies represented a range of sectors, from IoT (Internet of Things), the construction industry, advertising, sports technology, online commerce and big data.

Amongst these were UCLB spinouts MediaGamma and 3D Repo, both pitching for Series A investment.

Mr Cengiz Tarhan Managing Director of UCLB said “It was good to see an EIE event in London and to play a part in enabling early stage companies to pitch for investments to grow their businesses.

Dr Jozef Dobos, CEO of 3D Repo commented “As a university spinout, we were delighted to get the opportunity to represent UCLB at the event and showcase our innovate solution in front of such a large audience. EIE London was a great opportunity to network with many investors and we would highly recommend the event to others.

Rael Cline, Co-Founder and CEO of MediaGamma said “The EIE London event allowed us to not just pitch our company in front of a wide and diverse audience of investors, but also allow for extensive networking time with this very same audience. This is invaluable for startups which are actively fundraising.

The EIE London event run by Informatics Ventures was also supported by EIT Digital who brought a strong contingent of European-based entrepreneurs to the pitching stage. To date, EIE events run in Edinburgh and London have helped their carefully selected companies access over £40m of investment.

About EIE London
Since May 2008, Informatics Ventures’ flagship investor conference Engage Invest Exploit (EIE) in Edinburgh has connected young Scottish companies with UK and international investors including corporate venturers, venture capitalists, business angel syndicates and high net worth individuals. These connections have been a springboard to over £100 million in investment.

In November 2012, EIE London was launched to showcase 12 early-stage, promising Scottish companies handpicked from EIE Edinburgh to a select group of London-based investors. Many of these companies have been remarkable success stories, – from FanDuel to Celtic Renewables, Kotikan and Mallzee to mention a few – and EIE London has frequently afforded investors the first chance to meet the companies and their founders.

This year, EIE London is set to grow and evolve once more. In association with partner organisations, EIT Digital, UCL Advances and UCLB, EIE London 2015 will showcase 12 outstanding ICT companies with high growth potential not only from Scotland, but the rest of the UK and Europe. Each company will be seeking A round level (≥£1.5 million) funding to scale and grow their businesses, and offers venture capitalists and corporate venturers a highly focused and quality assured event.
