Jon Penfold, Director of Portfolio Management, has left UCL Business

Jon joined UCLB in 2015 to evaluate and manage UCLB’s portfolio of interests in spinout ventures and to implement a new shares management strategy.

Over the last ten years, Jon has overseen a share sales strategy that has successfully rationalised and managed UCLB’s holdings and generated income of over £170m. He has also led a small team to embed effective ongoing management processes for the portfolio.

Having realised these successes, Jon will be leaving UCLB to focus on setting up the investment vehicle for a growing social enterprise, dedicated to installing solar power generation and LED lighting in schools, with profits returned to support disadvantaged young people.

Jon said: “It has been a great honour to have been involved in helping to commercialise the IP of UCL and witness the often-global positive impact of the University. I am now focusing on expanding the social financial institution that I created before I joined UCLB which increases the resources available to educate disadvantaged children in UK schools.  It has been a joy to work alongside so many talented colleagues to whom I wish continued achievement and success.”
