Maria joined UCLB as Business Manager in July 2019 and is responsible for managing the IP and commercialisation of technologies arising from research across the Institute of Ophthalmology and Moorfields Eye Hospital.

She previously held a position as a commercialisation executive at Queen Mary Innovation Ltd for over three years, where she supported the identification, patent prosecution, translational development and commercialisation of bioengineering and medical technologies arising from research within the School of Science and Engineering and cross-faculty collaboration.

She obtained her PhD in molecular and cellular endocrinology from the University Paris Descartes, France, followed by post-doctoral research at the Wellcome Trust Institute for Stem Cell Research in Cambridge, the Centre for Stem Cells & Regenerative Medicine at King’s College London and The Institute of Cancer Research. Her scientific background spreads across molecular and cellular mechanisms in physiology and disease, nutrient signalling, wound healing, regeneration and cancer.
